Sink or Swim

Sat, 01/23/2010 - 11:05 — darthclue

I'm not one to toot my own horn so to speak. I don't go around claiming to know it all. I usually try to stay out of the spotlight.

I'm a behind the scenes, under the radar kind of guy. I know what I'm capable of and I do, on rare occasions, challenge myself to do more than that. This is one of those occasions.

In recent months I've been working with a really smart group of people on a project called NOWCastSA (http://www.nowcastsa.com/). In the beginning I was more of an indirect observer but I've recently become a co-conspirator or technical mentor if you will.

Behind the curve

Mon, 05/18/2009 - 17:34 — darthclue

I like to think that I work in a progressive industry.  I like to think that we try to reach out to our clients in ways that will reach them.

It turns out that I'm right.  I have a normal set of websites that I scan on a regular basis which belong to our counterparts throughout the industry.  Each of them have a link to Twitter.  Each of them use Twitter on a regular basis.  Some of them use it frequently enough that I might consider it a little overboard for my taste but I'm not in their target audience.

Social Media and your Social Profile

Sun, 05/10/2009 - 03:53 — darthclue

Random thought : What does your Social Profile say about you and just how accurate is it?

This popped into my head Saturday and as I waited for Star Trek to start it kept rolling around the inside of my brain.  And the more I thought about it the more I felt the need to flush out what this random thought really means.

What is 'Social Media' and why is it different?

Thu, 04/23/2009 - 16:42 — darthclue

I've asked myself this very question many times in the last couple of years. Social Media is really just a buzz word being used to categorize a multitude of new tools and technologies that allow people to communicate in a nearly infinite number of ways.

Let's be clear. I am not a journalist. I don't even pretend to be.

AT&T Uverse .. Maybe I should switch to TWC

Wed, 04/15/2009 - 18:16 — darthclue

Came home tonight to find my internet taking a nose dive again. Called and requested Tier II support. sorry Tier I but you are useless.

After 30 minutes they agreed to send a tech out because "There is no reason for this to be happening." - Their words, not mine.

I did a full reset for the 4th time after physically disconnecting the cable from the outside of the house.

Things are working at the moment but I'm not canceling the tech. I am tired of this nonsense.

Even Time Warner's outrageous prices would be better than this.

AT&T Uverse .. Tier 1 Tech Support is useless

Sat, 04/04/2009 - 11:08 — darthclue

I used to recommend Uverse to everyone. Now I'm not sure if I'll continue to do that.

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Math is fun!

09F911029D74E35BD84156C5635688C0

is the hexadecimal representation (with leading zero to round off to 32 hex digits) of

13256278887989457651018865901401704640 decimal

which amazingly enough, is equal to the huge prime number

13256278887989457651018865901401704613 + 3^3 (i.e. + 27)

Astonishingly, the next prime after that is only 31 away, so our famous number can also be represented as

13256278887989457651018865901401704671 - 31

Internet Advertising

Sun, 04/15/2007 - 04:52 — darthclue

Up until this evening, I've largely ignored internet advertising in all it's forms.  I haven't blocked it, I haven't even thought about it because in most cases it was never intrusive nor bothersome.

This evening I made the choice to begin blocking ads.  I started by downloading the Adblock extension for firefox and then configuring it to block the IntelliTXT ads.  If you haven't seen these, they are the ads that randomly double-underline words and pop-up a window when you roll over that word.
